The Season of Giving

Posted on Dec 19, 2017

Here are 10 beloved organizations with a mission to make a difference. We invite you to join us in helping those in need this holiday season.

World Vision

When it comes to holiday giving I believe in thinking about both local and global organizations. Our offices are in a busy downtown area and every day we see firsthand the challenges of those less fortunate than ourselves. We often adopt the children in residence at Robertson House (a local shelter for women and their children) to ensure that they get to enjoy the true spirit of Christmas with gifts. For global giving I support World Vision gifts to help end the cycle of poverty and hunger. Our help is needed in so many places and it’s important to think about those who need it most during this season! - Sarah

Kids Help Phone

We have always supported Kids Help Phone. Their 24 hour professionally staffed hotline means there is always someone to listen to, counsel, and comfort a kid in need. I had a moment with my oldest son last year… he told me he had called the hotline to talk about something that was bothering him. At first I was upset that he didn’t come to me and then it hit me that this is exactly what the hotline is for. If he can’t talk to me about an issue I am so grateful there is someone else with his best interests at heart just a call away. - Kate

Casey House

I have been a volunteer at Casey House for over 9 years now. At its inception in 1988 the Toronto Interior Design Community came together to furnish this special place where clients facing the challenges associated with HIV/ AIDS can find respite, compassion and the help they need. Now, with this year's official opening of the new and improved Casey House, we are able serve more clients in more communities with more essential services than ever. Every day I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve with the giant hearts at this beloved institution. - Tommy

Yonge Street Mission

My absolute favourite part of the Holidays is sharing a meal with those I love. I want everyone to have a warm, safe place to have a delicious meal, so my family buys a place at dinner for a number of people through the Yonge Street Mission every year. It is close to home and comforts me to know that I am helping provide a warm meal for someone who may be struggling. - Natalie

Canadian Cancer Society

The lives of too many of my loved ones have been affected by cancer, and as long as there are cures to hope for and organizations like The Canadian Cancer Society to fund research and help prevent cancer, I will do my part in any way I can - big or small.

Sick Kids Foundation

This year I'll be donating to Sick Kids. Sick Kids is currently in a campaign to raise 1.3 billion dollars to fund a new hospital. My boyfriend is a pediatric resident and I understand the importance of state of the art facilities and equipment to best help the patients. If you donate before the year is over, your donation will also be matched - so that is a big bonus in making your donation count and your contribution go the furthest it can. - Tiffany

What better way of achieving a brighter and healthier future than investing in the well-being of children. Sick Kids is an incredible hospital fighting every day to improve the health of children from all over the world. Having had a few personal experiences with Sick Kids, I can say first hand that it truly is a special place. - Nicole

Sick Kids is a fantastic charity working towards healing our most vulnerable population with innovative healthcare treatments. - Ashley

Pregnancy Care Centre

Yearly, I donate to the Pregnancy Care Centre. This includes items that are in great condition: clothes, furniture, household items etc. This year we donated our Christmas tree to a young single mother who could not afford one on her own. It's a great cause and one that is close to my heart. - CeCe

Heart and Stroke Foundation

I support the Heart & Stroke Foundation. This one hits close to home as my sister had a stroke at 25. She's recovered and doing great, so we try and do our part to help others that are going through similar events. - Kelsey
